The Rivers State Signage and Advertisement Agency (RISAA) took a significant step over the week by dissolving all of its revenue agents, consultants, contractors, and taskforce with immediate effect. The announcement was made by the Managing Director of RISAA, Aye Atama Pepple, through a statement personally signed on Friday, March 15, 2024, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Simultaneously, Dr. George-Kelly D Alabo, the Rivers State Commissioner for Works, tendered his resignation to the state government once again as he received a Federal government appointment. Dr. Alabo, who held the position of commissioner for works and special duties until his resignation, took this step to pursue his new role.
Over the weekend, the executive governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, participated in the funeral rites of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Adeline Ndalu Jaja, in her hometown of Opobo. Dignitaries from various sectors attended the event to pay their last respects, honoring the life and legacy of Mrs. Jaja.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State government commenced the Free Ear Care and Screening Services initiative in collaboration with the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital and the Rivers State Chapter of Oto-rhino-laryngological Society of Nigeria (ORLSON). The event, launched at the Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgery Clinic in Rebisi, Port Harcourt, marked the 2024 World Hearing Day on Friday, March 15, 2024. The deputy governor, Prof. Mrs. Ngozi Odu, graced the occasion, emphasizing the importance of ear care and screening for public health.
Furthermore, the container terminal operator of Nigeria’s first deep seaport, Lekki Freeport Terminal, established a liaison office in Apapa to enhance customer service and accessibility for clients using Nigeria’s busiest ports, Apapa and Tin-Can Ports. This strategic move aims to provide a dedicated hub for addressing inquiries, offering assistance, and efficiently handling service-related matters. Equipped with a customer service counter, the liaison office serves as a convenient point of contact for clients seeking support and information regarding port operations.
Lastly, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) demonstrated its commitment to delivering legacy projects by initiating proactive measures. The Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, visited several unfinished projects in Port Harcourt and pledged to prioritize their completion within a year. Dr. Ogbuku assured that these projects would be finalized to ensure their functionality and benefit to the community.
